BRC Club Rules

General Safety Rules

Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded.

Never point a firearm at anything you do not intend to shoot.

Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Wear appropriate eye and ear protection at all times.

Familiarize yourself with the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm you are using.

CHECK THE CLUB CALENDAR BEFORE GOING TO THE CLUB!

Safety FIRST – Firearm safety, courtesy and common sense will ensure no one gets injured. Unsafe behavior, consumption of alcohol, drugs or drunkenness at the club is grounds for loss of membership.

Binghamton rifle club offers free training by our NRA certified instructors upon request.

All members must sign using the book on the table by door.

  • All members shooting a pistol must fit one of the following scenarios:
  • Have a NYS Pistol Permit
  • Law Enforcement Officer. LEO’s from PA are allowed to shoot in NY.
  • Supervision by a certified instructor with credentials on file with the club.
  • Attending an NRA sanctioned event 

Ready Room (Main Room)

ABSOLUTELY NO HANDLING OF GUNS IN READY ROOM

ALL FIREARMS MUST BE IN A BAG OR CASE WHEN YOU ENTER THE BUILDING

 Four Basic Safety Rules

  • Always treat every gun as a loaded gun – keep it pointed in a safe direction!
  • Never put your finger on trigger until the sights are on target.
  • Never point your gun at anything you are not willing to shoot.
  • Always know your target and what is beyond it.
  • BRC has a  ZERO tolerance policy for safety protocol violations

Approved Ammunition and Firearms 

  • Air guns ,.22 and .17 caliber rimfire rifles
  • Metallic jacketed and lead bullets up to.50 caliber handgun ammunition.
  • Pistol Caliber Carbines  (9mm, 357, .38, .40, .45, .45LC, 10mm).
  • No shotguns including pistols that fire .410 shotgun cartridges.
  • NO CENTERFIRE RIFLE CALIBERS, 22-250, 22 Hornet,.223/5.56/7.62 AR, etc. 

Targets & Styles of shooting allowed.

  • Target & Self defense practice with paper targets only
  • All targets at 21 feet minimum
  • NO shooting across lanes or Drawing and Shooting from a holster
  • Alternate targets are allowed with proper approval by the Executive Committee.
  • Some instructor led groups may follow different rules.
  • LANE #2 is 50 FEET ONLY DUE TO TURNING SYSTEM POLE

Entering range

  • No food or drink on the range.
  • Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times.
  • Turn exhaust fan on
  • The barrel  of your firearm MUST BE POINTED DOWN RANGE at all times.
  • Range heater to the left and Light switches and Exhaust Fan on the right
  • Never handle guns when RED LIGHT is on. The Red Light is to be always on when you go down range or in front of the shooting benches. (Even when alone in the range)
  • All range should be kept closed except for those positions being used. Close doors when done shooting. Especially in the winter to maintain range temperature.

  Exiting the range

  • Sweep up brass and place it in the blue container by the range door or take home what you shoot. Recycle used targets
  • Dud’s or Live rounds should be placed in the box marked DUDS on the Range Officer’s stand..
  • Turn off the range lights and close the door to the range.
  • Report any damage/breakage by leaving a note (used target) at the shooting position and on the red tablet located on the sign-in table. Do not try to repair the damage.
  • WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE YOU LEAVE!
  • Sign out

Get Involved in YOUR Club

  • Work parties are held at various times to repair and clean the Club. All members are expected to donate a few hours each year to support the range cleaning and work parties.
  • Executive Committee and general membership meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month except for holidays. Members are encouraged to participate. The Annual meeting for the election of offices is held in May. The meeting schedule and Club activities are shown on the Club web site and our Facebook page.

Guest Policy

  • Guests are not allowed to shoot at the club (pistol or rifle), however guests may observe with proper eye & hearing protection. They may also reside in the ready room.
  • The club will offer semi-regular guest days run by a certified instructor.

Any member found in violation of these rules may be suspended or have their membership terminated with no refund.

Members are required to research and become familiar with any laws or club rules if there are any questions about what can or cannot be permitted in NYS or the club.
